John Bruzon

Piano Teacher and Pianist
Home Page      Biography
John Bruzon was born and educated in Gibraltar.  From an early age he showed great promise and talent at the piano, but at a time when the opportunities in Gibraltar for training for a dedicated career in music were practically negligible. By his own determination he went to London to pursue what he knew to be his calling.

He studied at Trinity College of Music with the pianist Irene Kohler to whom he owes much. He also sought guidance from Louis Kentner, Kendall Taylor and Marguerite Wolff and worked with Paul Hamburger on the art of accompaniment.

Over the years he has enjoyed a varied and exciting career, being equally at home in both classical and lighter fields of music. He has performed in concerts and recitals throughout the UK and abroad, including engagements at the Wigmore Hall, London, and a series of no less demanding classical programmes, before an equally critical audience, on the QE2 for part of a world cruise.

John was also privileged to partner the English National Opera’s baritone Derek Hammond-Stroud at the Fairfield Halls 20th Anniversary Celebrity Lunchtime Concerts.  Derek also selected John to accompany him in a performance of the song cycle “Winterreise” for the Schubert Society of Great Britain. He was also a regular accompanist for Derek’s busy teaching practice in London.

Through his passion, hard work and natural flair for performance he is now a highly respected and versatile concert pianist constantly in demand.  More recently he has added teaching to his portfolio. John is a natural teacher who thoroughly enjoys encouraging and developing his many students’ talents and technical keyboard skills.

Currently he is based in Brighton where he is happily settled, and works hard at a busy and diverse career as teacher, coach, accompanist and soloist.

He has recently been invited to join the Piano Committee for the Springboard Arts Festival, which is an annual event for youth in Brighton and Hove.

His acceptance of this invitation is a clear indication of his dedication to youthful talent and his desire to have a part in encouraging young performers constantly to strive for better standards.
